BDL Media’s Managing Partner Danny Levinson, and head of its XZList subsidiary, took part in China’s 2006 Anti-Spam Annual Meeting and International Anti-Spam Summit. As a representative for Spamhaus in China, Levinson delivered a speech about anti-spam fighting in China and then took part in a panel with representatives from Epsilon Interactive, Sohu.com., Sina.com, and Microsoft about email marketing and spam fighting.

This summit is the first large-scale activity since the establishment of Anti-Spam Committee of ISC. In order to intensify the crackdown on spam, the Chinese government and industry organizations have carried out a series of activities. For example, the “Sunshine Green Network Project” and Internet Sweep Day activity were initiated focusing on governing spam in China and the “Regulation on Internet Email Service Management” was implemented targeting at anti-spam.

About 400 participants including officials and experts from China’s State Council Informatization Office; Ministry of Information Industry; State Administration for Industry and Commerce; Ministry of Public Security; specialists from overseas relevant fields; international anti-spam organizations; multinational corporations like Microsoft, Epsilon, and AOL; domestic ISP and ESP firms, technology and platform providers, application developers, and integration and scheme providers all attended.

According to Spamhaus, China is the secod largest originator of spam in the world. With over 621 million users around the world using its services, Spamhaus is the world’s largest anti-spam open source project. Spamhaus is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to track the Internet’s Spam Gangs, to provide dependable realtime anti-spam protection for Internet networks, to work with Law Enforcement Agencies to identify and pursue spammers worldwide, and to lobby governments for effective anti-spam legislation.

Founded in 1998, Spamhaus is based in the UK and is run by a dedicated team of 25 investigators located in four continents. Spamhaus publishes the Register Of Known Spam Operations (ROKSO) - a database collating information and evidence on the 200 current worst spam gangs worldwide, used by ISPs to avoid signing up known spammers and by Law Enforcement Agencies to help target and mount prosecutions against professional spammers.
